Policy service in Digital Access, add, set up, and configure

What is the policy service?

The policy service provides for policy management, authentication, authorization, and log services in Smart ID Digital Access component, regardless of service or communication channel. All authentication methods are configured in the policy service, so when a request comes in, the policy service evaluates the appropriate access rules and forwards the request to its destination. A number of systems for authentication can be integrated, and products not managed directly by the policy service can be integrated using the Extension Programming Interface (XPI).

The policy service makes access decisions, authenticates, audits, and validates certificates as well as digital signatures.

Clients communicating with the policy service interact via different access channels such as the web.

What is access policies?

The policy service makes the access decisions depending on access policies. These policies rely on who wants to have access, which resource or service the user is requesting, which communication channel the request comes through, and which authentication method that is needed. In Digital Access component, these policies are called access rules.
