With some card profiles, Personal Desktop Client would write the certificate or PIN blob to different files, EFEMPTY1 or EFEMPTY2 (both of which are referenced in EFUNUSED), depending on which of those files was empty. This has been fixed. Personal Desktop Client now always writes the PIN blob to the last available entry in EFUNUSED.

PER-4778

Personal.cfg now has this line:

SkipReader=.*Virtual Smart Card.*;.*Next VSC.*;Windows Hello for Business.*;.*Virtual Reader.*

This allows to ignore the following (and not only) virtual smart card readers:

  • Microsoft Virtual Smart Card 0

  • charismathics Virtual Reader 0

  • Nexus Group Next VSC Smart Card 0

  • Windows Hello for Business 0

The virtual smart cards are not currently used in Personal Desktop Client and only complicate the workflows in some scenarios. For that reason it is safe to ignore them.
