Install and upgrade Smart ID Desktop App (macOS)
This article describes how to install Smart ID Desktop App (macOS).
Prerequisites (for macOS)
See Smart ID Desktop App requirements and interoperability (macOS).
Install Smart ID Desktop App from Nexus Support portal (macOS)
Double-click SmartID.pkg to start the installation process and follow the instructions on the screen. See the Installation guide for more information.
It is recommended to install the application in the Applications folder.
Uninstall Smart ID Desktop App (macOS)
Delete the app (to the Recycle bin) to uninstall the application. See the Uninstallation guide for more information.
Uninstalling the app will remove all profile information and identities.
Upgrade Smart ID Desktop App (macOS)
When you upgrade Smart ID Desktop App, all the metadata, including any existing profiles, are preserved.
Installation of greater versions will automatically upgrade the app.
Important file locations
Application logs:
/Users/[userName]/Library/Containers/com.nexusgroup.SmartID/Data/Library/Logs/SmartID/logfile-x.logPKCS11 logs:
/Users/[userName]/Library/Containers/com.nexusgroup.SmartID/Data/Library/Application Support/se.nexus.Personal/log/pkcs11-xxxx.logUserDefaults:
/Users[userName]/Library/Group Containers/group.com.nexusgroup.SmartID/Library/Preferences/group.com.nexusgroup.SmartID.plist
Open the application logs from the app settings:
Click Open application logs in the Log tab to open the finder window to the application logs.
Troubleshooting
Uninstall application fails
If you get an error message with the text “The item “SmartID” can’t be moved to the Bin because some of its extensions are in use…”, this usually happens when Smart ID CryptoTokenKit is running in the background. See Kill process in activity monitor for more information.
